I'm going to brag about my accomplishments in this post...You will never see a posting from me about running a marathon, painting a portrait, playing in a concert etc... BUT I must say I just finished a marathon on my sewing machine. It was Rachel's birthday back in May and I came up with this brillant idea that I wanted to make her a pettiskirt that she could twirl around in and play dress up with. Then I thought - Heather's birthday is in July, she would love one also, so I'll make her one too. I went and bought the fabric and was so excited. Well after spending hours (yes hours) cutting the fabric out for Rachel's skirt, I started thinking about my 2 day deadline that I had till her birthday....I started sewing it up and realized that the pattern was for a newborn and would be way too short....I was starting to get a bit irritated...Bought some more fabric and continued to sew....hours passed, more sewing, hours passed, more sewing....you see there are at least 48 yards of ruffle that needed to be gathered and attached just to the bottom of the skirt...well needless to say I did finish it and on time, I was determined, I really wanted to get it finished. I made quite a few mistakes, but there wasn't no ripping out those seams it was just going to have to do. Rachel has loved her skirt.
Well now was the question after seeing what a pain in the neck this skirt was would I complete the 2nd one??? I put it off for quite awhile them about 1 week before Heather's birthday I thought I would just go and buy her one despite the fact that I already had the fabric- it would be a lot easier you know. I found one and quickly changed my mind. They were $82.00, there was the end of buying one!! I decided I had already made one so the 2nd one would be a bit easier, I knew what I was getting myself into. I gave myself a few extra days to get it done. Two days is not enough time when you've got a zillion other things on the list to get done. So I started, once again spent hours cutting it out, hours at the machine. July 4th came and went and there wasn't a skirt for Heather (she didn't know I was making her one, which made it a bit tricky for when I could work on it). Well there it sat in the sack....Tonight I had a baby shower at the house and needed to clean up my sewing mess. I knew that once the machine was back in the closet, maybe Heather would get the skirt for her daughter!! I had to finish it..I stayed up last night into the wee hours of the morning AND I FINISHED IT!!!!! I couldn't go to sleep afterwards, I was so proud of myself that I had finished it!! I must say, I think they are pretty cute and the girls love them just as much as I knew they would!!! And who knows I just might start working on one for Tiffany!!
